oakleaf hydrangea in shade

I planted an oakleaf hydrangea, three years ago. It has yet to bloom. The first year I mistakenly pruned it in the fall, so that's probably why it did not bloom the second year. It is in a spot shaded by an ash tree for the afternoon. I conditioned the soil well, adding lots of peat and vermiculite and each year I've added compost since our natural base is clay. My limelight, tardiva and peegee hydrangeas in other parts of the garden are coming beautifully. Any suggestions on why the oakleaf is not blooming?
